# Alpha memo: skeletal / muscle bounded update

**Research question:** Does the positive signal in Receipt 1 hold in the setting tested by Receipt 2?

**One-sentence alpha:** skeletal / muscle looks positive in Receipt 1 but is limited by Receipt 2, so the alpha is an endpoint- and setting-dependent update rather than a universal benefit claim.

**Receipt 1:** Improvements in skeletal muscle strength and cardiac function induced by resveratrol during exercise training contribute to enhanced exercise performance in rats | 2012 | 10.1113/jphysiol.2012.230490

**Receipt 2:** Exercise training, but not resveratrol, improves metabolic and inflammatory status in skeletal muscle of aged men | 2014 | 10.1113/jphysiol.2013.270256

**Synthesis:** Receipt 1 is the expectation receipt in an animal model; Receipt 2 is the update receipt in a human study. The comparison is bounded to skeletal / muscle / resveratrol, and should not be read as advice, settled science, or a broad class claim.

**Why this is surprising:** The same named anchor is not enough. The useful signal is the boundary between the two receipt settings and endpoints, not a literature-average claim about skeletal / muscle / resveratrol.

**Caveats/falsifiers:**
- A head-to-head study with the same population, dose, duration, and endpoint would outrank this pair.
- If Receipt 2 measured a different endpoint, treat the memo as a boundary signal rather than a failure claim.
- If a later human or field trial reproduces Receipt 1 on the same endpoint, reject the update.

**Next test:** Run the same skeletal / muscle / resveratrol comparison in one matched design before treating the signal as general.
