# Alpha memo: resveratrol exercise training cross-context signal **One-sentence alpha:** Resveratrol may attenuate exercise-induced intestinal injury in mice but blunted the positive cardiovascular adaptations of exercise training in aged men, suggesting a context-dependent split. **Receipt 1:** Resveratrol attenuated high intensity exercise training-induced inflammation and ferroptosis via Nrf2/FTH1/GPX4 pathway in intestine of mice — 28 days of resveratrol (15 mg/kg/day) in mice undergoing high-intensity swimming suggested attenuation of intestinal inflammation and ferroptosis markers. **Receipt 2:** Resveratrol blunts the positive effects of exercise training on cardiovascular health in aged men — 8 weeks of 250 mg/day trans-resveratrol with high-intensity training in 27 aged men was associated with blunting of training-induced improvements in cardiovascular health parameters. **Why this is surprising:** Receipt 1 made plausible a broadly transferable protective resveratrol-plus-exercise signal, which Receipt 2 directly overturns for human cardiovascular endpoints. **Caveats/falsifiers:** - Receipt 1 is a 28-day mouse model at 15 mg/kg/day measuring intestinal inflammation/ferroptosis; Receipt 2 is an 8-week 250 mg/day trial in aged men measuring cardiovascular parameters, so the contrast is confounded by species, tissue, dose, route, duration, and baseline age, and the moderator hypothesis is tentative. - The 2013 paper is the direct human evidence; the 2023 paper supplies mechanistic context rather than a direct replication, so a future trial in aged humans testing intestinal endpoints under exercise and resveratrol would be a decisive falsifier. - Both studies are small (n unspecified for mice; n=27 men), limiting generalizability.
