# Alpha memo: resveratrol exercise training mice translation boundary **One-sentence alpha:** Two 2023 mouse studies on resveratrol plus exercise training suggest tissue- and endpoint-specific effects (liver anti-aging signals in mature SAMP8 mice vs. intestinal inflammation/ferroptosis protection under high-intensity swimming), which may not extend across organ systems, species, or supplementation contexts. **Receipt 1:** Combination resveratrol with exercise training has anti-aging function only at mature stage SAMP8 mice liver (2023) — in 6-month-old SAMP8 mice, liver cross-sections showed lower adipocytes, collagen, and apoptosis cells after exercise training, resveratrol intake, and their combination than in 3-month-old SAMP8 mice. **Receipt 2:** Resveratrol attenuated high intensity exercise training-induced inflammation and ferroptosis via Nrf2/FTH1/GPX4 pathway in intestine of mice (2023) — mice given a 28-day swimming protocol with/without 15 mg/kg/day resveratrol were assessed for intestinal inflammatory factors and permeability to test whether resveratrol protects against high-intensity exercise-induced intestinal damage. **Why this is surprising:** Both papers pair resveratrol with exercise training in mice, yet Receipt 1 frames outcomes in liver anti-aging terms and Receipt 2 frames resveratrol as a protectant against exercise-induced intestinal damage rather than as a performance/benefit enhancer, hinting at organ- and direction-dependent responses. **Caveats/falsifiers:** - Receipt 1 uses senescence-accelerated SAMP8 mice at 3 vs. 6 months; Receipt 2 uses a 28-day high-intensity swimming protocol at 15 mg/kg/day in an unspecified mouse strain — strain, age, modality, dose, and duration all differ, so any moderator attribution (tissue vs. age vs. training intensity) is tentative and confounded across these axes. - Receipt 2 investigates resveratrol as a protectant against exercise-induced damage, not as a performance/benefit enhancer; the framing distinction means the two papers are not measuring the same direction of benefit, so this is a heterogeneous cross-context signal rather than a direct split and no clinical, dosing, or supplementation recommendation follows. - Decisive falsifier: a same-strain, same-age, same-modality, same-dose mouse study comparing liver vs. intestinal endpoints under resveratrol plus exercise training would be needed to isolate tissue as the moderator; sample sizes were small in both receipts and were not reported as matched designs.
